Rebuilding Lara's relationship with her kids – Lara's story

After losing a close family member, Lara became depressed and started using meth. After the house she and her kids were living in was raided, her children were placed in Lara's mum’s care.

Lara did some research about her Aboriginal heritage but doesn't know much about her culture. She goes to yarning circles to learn from her mob.

While Lara has been clean for 2 years, her children can't return to live with her as both her and her partner James have domestic violence orders against them.

Working with Family Wellbeing Services helped Lara understand Child Safety and she has gone from supervised to unsupervised visits with her kids. They're also supporting her to achieve her goals to manage her anger and drug addiction.

Lara is now hoping her kids can sleepover at her house so they can have dinner as a family, watch some telly and have breakfast together in the morning. Her Family Wellbeing Services worker is helping her to get the house ready for their sleepover, helping her get bedding, toys, and garden equipment so she can have the yard ready for the kids to play in.
